Lousy Rotten Stinkin

This book is a retelling of the class Aesop fable, “Sour Grapes” with a somewhat expanded cast of characters.  It has been adopted by Mrs. Harper’s fourth grade class as part of their folklore unit.

This book tells the story, in rhyme, of a little boy who gets blown away in a bubble and chased by the town.  It has not been adopted by a CTES teacher.

Pennies for Elephants book cover

This book is based on the true story of a group of kids who got together to buy elephants from a circus for the Boston Zoo.  It is a great way to show how many small contributions can add up to a lot of money.  It has been adopted by Mrs. Svec who teaches math to grades one and two.

Let

This is a great book about a couple of kids who try to do absolutely nothing but have trouble when their imaginations get in the way.  This book has been adopted by Mrs. Bonang’s First and Second grade class.

I love the artwork in this one.  It is a retelling of the classic story with eye-popping illustrations.  I am adopting this one and will use it in my classes.

This is an excellent book in which a young boy reads about redwood trees and imagines himself in a redwood forest while living in a city.  It has been adopted by Mrs. Kendall’s Kindergarten class.

Button Up! Wrinkled Rhymes Book Cover

 This book contains a collection of poetry about clothing by Alice Schertle.  Thus far it has not been adopted by a teacher.  I will use the poor orphan in the poetry units I teach in third, fifth and sixth grade.

An Eye for Color, The Story of Josef Albers

This book is also a short biography, but it focuses on Albers’ use of layering colors.  Naturally, it has been adopted by Mrs. Jones our art teacher.  I am especially excited to see what her classes come up with.

Moonshot Cover

This book tells the story of the first moon landing by the Apollo 11 space craft in 1969.  It’s pretty heavy text wise and has a lot of information.  It has been adopted by Mrs. Thompson’s fifth grade class.

This book contains a brief biography of Jacques Cousteau including how he became interested in undersea exploration.  It features excellent art and contains quotes from Cousteau.  This book has been adopted by Ellen Cameron’s third grade class at CTES.
